36 Days of Type(s of Playing Cards)

36 Days of Type is an annual call for designers to explore and celebrate typography. Hosted on Instagram and created by Barcelona-based designers Nina Sans & Rafa Goicoechea, the open invitation to visual artists has a goal of showcasing interpretations of the Latin alphabet. In 2023 I designed a series of letters and numbers inspired by my love of playing card design history and used it as an opportunity to explore new perspectives on different types of cards — from poker and regional games, to tarot and fortune telling.

Exhibit Stickers

The Villanova University Archives curates interactive and engaging exhibits for their distinctive collections. These little kawaii-inspired sticker freebies (that make a fun color-for-yourself activity!) were given away to students who attended their event opening at the beginning of the term.

University Archives Zine

A cost effective outreach initiative for Villanova University students, this series of Zines was aimed at educating students on University history and showing the types of materials in their special collections. It also served as a call to action for current students to contribute their own stories and artifacts to be preserved by the library.

Sandworm Instruction Manual

Our neighborhood is Halloween-obsessed. We close down the street, decorate the whole block together, and enjoy hosting one giant party for trick-or-teaters and parents (prior to the pandemic, the expected number of candy-seekers and pedestrian onlookers for the night of October 31 would easily reach the thousands). I constructed this Beetlejuice-inspired prop for our annual block party. After receiving so many questions about the prop’s construction, I decided to make an instructional guide to show people who were interested.

Just Some Cool Critters

These simple little critters were created for a community initiative for Tessitura Network professionals in the Arts & Culture industry. Groups were formed by discipline and came together to share success stories and hurdles within their chosen fields. The pin badges for the campaign would go on to become long-term unifiers for colleagues at conferences and community gatherings.

A Winter Promenade

I have built a special spot in my heart for event planning and wedding design over the years, but one project stands out as a clear favorite (because it was mine!). My wife and I channeled our love for all things Wes Anderson into an intimate party filled with fun flatlays, purple suits, and Courtesan au Chocolat. Hosted at our favorite restaurant in Center City, Philadelphia, the facade leant itself perfectly to the design of our wedding invitations. In addition to their Mendl’s Box party favor, guests received a custom-scented candle memento.
